Between the Seams
Between The Seams expands the concept of ‘interstices’ beyond its basic definition as an intervening space. For the exhibitions, the curators view interstice as a framework that could take the the form of a social construct, a personal ideology, a mechanism by which we engage with art or a descriptor for an aspect of an artwork itself. Ossei-Mensah and Smith endeavour to utilise the idea of interstices or the in-between spaces as a forum to interrogate notions of hybridity, memory, migration, colonialism, culture, identity, peronal narratives and the seen and unseen.

Marina Abramović at The Royal Academy of Arts
This autumn, the Royal Academy of Arts will present the first major solo survey in the UK of the work of internationally acclaimed Serbian performance artist and Honorary Royal Academician, Marina Abramović (b. 1946). In a career that spans over five decades, Abramović has propelled performance art from its experimental beginnings to the mainstream. The exhibition, arranged in close collaboration with the artist, will provide an overview of her extraordinary practice with photographs, videos, objects and installations. It will also feature four of Abramović’s seminal performance pieces, which will be reperformed live in the galleries.

Trevor Yeung: Soft ground
Gasworks presents Soft ground, the first UK solo exhibition by Trevor Yeung (b. Guangdong province; lives Hong Kong). Yeung’s work uses botanic ecology, horticulture, photography, and installation as metaphors to understand social relations. Preoccupied by systems of control, he often uses plants as cyphers, borrowing from their structure, care, and maintenance to think about intimate and personal experiences. Intermingling plant, animal, spectator and participant, Yeung’s work prompts us to consider how emotional and behavioural conditions in our everyday life are determined.

GEN/GEN: Generative Generations
Gazelli Art House in collaboration with tech partner Verisart is thrilled to introduce their first co-curated exhibition GEN/GEN: Generative Generations, taking over all three floors of Gazelli Art House’s central Mayfair gallery. This exhibition continues the gallery’s longstanding interest in and promotion of digital art, intertwining with the historical angle of the gallery’s program.
Following Gazelli Art House’s The AARON Retrospective, and ahead of a major 2024 museum survey, the gallery has deepened investigations into Computer Art pioneer Harold Cohen’s practice by aligning his work with three of his peers – Ernest Edmonds, William Latham, and Stephen Willats – while recontextualising these works through an array of contemporary generative artists.
GEN/GEN: Generative Generations is a group exhibition spanning six decades, featuring works from: Loren Bednar, Darien Brito, Sougwen Chung, Harold Cohen, Brendan Dawes, Ernest Edmonds, Licia He, Tyler Hobbs, Ben Kovach, William Latham, Rhea Myers, Piter Pasma, Monica Rizzolli, Melissa Wiederrecht, and Stephen Willats.

Will St. John at Saatchi Yates
This September, Saatchi Yates will present the debut solo exhibition of New York artist Will St. John, opening Wednesday 13 September and on view until Sunday 22 October. Will St. John spent years studying Renaissance painting techniques in Florence and around Europe. He brings these skills to his community of Bohemian New Yorkers. With a rigorous artistic style and approach to image-making, St. John’s meticulously crafted paintings exude delicately fierce character.
Reminding us of the French Rococo tradition, his works echo the genre’s hallmark traits: a whimsical treatment of sensual themes, deployment of rich and intricate brushwork, and an infusion of pastel hues. St. John paints Drag Queens, Trans models, and pairs them alongside antique porcelain figurines, trinkets and phantoms in his eclectic world rooted in classical painting. Some of his portraits he even renders into porcelain statues, snuff boxes and lockets, freezing them in time.
