I genuinely look forward to this year’s fair and believe the presentations and participating galleries are more vital than ever

Managing Director Sara Berner Bengtsson

The fair’s lineup features galleries from each Nordic country, including long-time participants such as Galerie Nordenhake from Sweden, Galleri Bo Bjerggaard from Denmark, and Galleri Riis from Norway. The fair welcomes the return of galleries, including Þula from Iceland and Galerie Anhava from Finland, alongside first-time participants such as Saskia Neuman Gallery from Sweden.

Last year’s expansion of the fair, Market Debut, will once again take place at Spritmuseum, a short walking distance from Liljevalchs. Market Debut was last year’s ambitious new section focusing exclusively on young galleries. This year, the eight featured galleries will also include established ones to present a dynamic mix of up-and-coming talents in the Nordic art scene.

Highlighting some of the most exciting developments from across the Nordic region, at this year’s Market Art Fair, visitors will find experimental approaches as well as traditional craft-based art and a well-earned focus on some of the galleries’ most experienced artists.

The fair proudly welcomes presentations by 81-year-old Ursula Reuter Christiansen from Denmark (Von Bartha (DK)), 93-year-old Italian artist Isabella Ducrot (Belenius (SE)), 78-year-old Gun Gordillo from Sweden (2112 (DK)), and 70-year-old Norwegian artist Olav Christopher Jensen, who will be presented jointly by Galleri Riis and Galleri Susanne Ottesen. Christopher Jensen is currently exploring ceramics as a new path in his practice, a medium that reflects recent years’ noticeable interest in craft and adjacent art forms.

This has a strong presence also at this year’s fair, with artists such as Marit Tingleff (FORMAT Oslo, (NO)), Ann Wåhlström (Galleri Glas (SE)), Liv Tandrevold Eriksen (QB Gallery (NO)), Susanne Welm and Anne Mette Larsen (KANT (DK)), Guðmundur Thoroddsen (Þula (IS)) all working on the border between arts and craft, as do several artists presented in group shows by V1 Gallery (DK) and Saskia Neuman Gallery (SE).

The fair also champions stimulating conversation, engaging talks, and pioneering ideas. The talk program will be released later this spring and will include inspirational and insightful actors from inside and around the Nordic art scene. Market Art Fair is proud to collaborate with many partners who support the development of the Nordic art scene, with SEB as a Lead Partner in a three-year collaboration, and BMW, who once again provides Market Art Fair’s VIP all-electric courtesy car service which will be turned into mobile works of art decorated by a celebrated Nordic artist.

Participating galleries are selected by an international selection committee consisting of Lars Nittve (chairman), Museum director emeritus, (SE) Pilvi Kalhama, Director, EMMA Espoo Museum of Art (FI) Magnus af Petersens, Independent curator and former director, Bonniers Konsthall (SE) and Marie Nipper, Director, Arken Museum, (DK).
