GR Gallery is pleased to announce “Main Event” and “I Saw You Before”, two concurrent solo exhibitions featuring artists Jason Pulgarin and Chen Wei Ting. The shows will reveal, for the first time in a public exhibition, the latest series of artworks that the artists has been working on for the past months.
Appositely conceived for this occasion, these new body of works will independently invade the gallery space, contrasting and counterbalancing each other. The show will put together twenty original pieces including paintings, sculptures, drawings and one print.
In “Main Event ” Jason Pulgarin will adapt his recently developed digital brushstrokes inspired style to depict a fresh series dedicated to the golden years of ‘WresltleMania’. Using the American Wrestling as a metaphor of nowadays life and the distortions of the contemporary art market, the artist will bring to the gallery, as a unique and cutting edge revelation, Hulk Hogan, Andre’ the Giant, Macho Man and all the most iconic wrestlers with all the wrath, flashiness and drama that used to identify them.
On the other side in “I Saw You Before” Chen Wei Ting will set his imagination free from any temporal reference, populating the exhibition space with his visionary characters. Inspired by a mixture of traditional Asian mythology, popular culture and contemporary chronicles, these uncommon beasts combine at the same time extra cute components with the current hype and a singular timeless, nevertheless nostalgic, aura, that will shoot the visitor in a newfangled fairytale like territory.
Opening reception: Thursday March 18, 3:00pm – 8:00pm (Exhibition Dates: March 19 – April 16, 2021).
