Daniel Weissbach receives his fourth – and first posthumous – solo exhibition titled “Stellen” at Ruttkowski;68 in Düsseldorf since passing away. Weissbach’s practice is deeply anchored in the use of real-world locations as primary sources of inspiration, uniquely isolating these places from their usual settings and repurposing them into new realms of significance.

This process shifts worldly boundaries, interweaving layers of time and connecting the present with the past. His work captures the essence of constant change and historical continuity through static snapshots of places that resist the fading of their collected imprints.

In his series, Weissbach transforms ordinary spaces like tiled walls at common transit points into something beyond their original identity. These everyday spaces undergo a process of distortion and alienation, emerging as sites of ambiguity and open interpretation. Weissbach skillfully abstracts these elements, converting mundane lines and joints into his distinctive visual language, reminiscent of a living entity that holds onto the past, marked both visibly and invisibly.

Throughout his career, Weissbach evolved a diverse range of multimedia techniques, styles, and personas, evident across his entire portfolio. This exhibition, set to tour from Düsseldorf to Paris and New York, is complemented by a publication offering new insights into his creative universe. This book serves to extend the reach and significance of his artistic influence beyond his lifetime.
