Prior to bringing the exhibition to Asia art scenery, end of January RARARES Gallery is closing the
first Dubai solo show of paintings by a young contemporary artist Mathias Masarati Hagen. The
exhibition is called “Abstract Carnival” and it is definitely the one worth visiting in Dubai. It
immerses viewers in a world of happiness, positive energy, and exuberant kindness – qualities
that may seem playfully childlike but are undeniably uplifting.

The reality of Ma$arati, overshadowed and intertwined with the everyday, presents the captivating, strange, and surreal images of Abstract Carnival. A spectacle of emotions, sounds,
and colors, each piece becomes a window into a unique abstract universe, full of vibrant and
figurative expression. The carnival theme permeates the entire series of works, created by the artist specifically for the first solo exhibition in Dubai, with each canvas as an explosion of emotions. Abstraction becomes a language that conveys the joy of rebirth through unconventional figures. The dance of form and colour on the canvases evokes a sense of movement and life.

His colourful works bring a breath of fresh air to the art scene, reflecting a carefree and fearless lifestyle, coupled with a spontaneity worthy of admiration.

In the Abstract Carnival series, the artist explores the concept of celebration as a reflection of the inner state of a person. The symbolic carnival mask represents liberation from the mundane, while the abstract-figurative forms embody internal emotions, allowing viewers not only to see through the artist’s lens but also to experience his inner world.

About Mathias Masarati Hagen

Emerging from the art capital of Norway, Mathias Masarati Hagen, known as MA$ARATI (b. 1991),
distinguishes himself as an extraordinary Oslo-based artist, leaving a solid footprint on contemporary Scandinavian art scene. Following a thriving exhibition career in Norway, Mathias
has captured the attention of the art dealers worldwide, culminating in his highly anticipated first
solo exhibition in Dubai curated by RARARES Gallery in DIFC.

Like many millennials, Mathias initially followed a socially conventional path. However, his talent for art grew so profoundly that it could not longer be dismissed as ’just a hobby’. Art school was his strong start in developing his abstract painting technique. The deeper he studied classic arts, the more sophisticated and diverse his artistic expression became.

My art is deeply rooted in my heart and soul. It is characterized by my unwavering passion to push the boundaries of creativity and convey intense emotions through my artistic creations and a wide array of mediums -paintings, sculptures, freestyle tattoos, clothing design, and jewelry

Millennials are often defined by their elevated usage of and familiarity with the Internet, mobile
devices, social media, and technology. Mathias is the brightest example of today’s Scandinavian
art scene, bringing distinctive features of his generation to the canvases. Like a young Basquiat,
who aimed at capturing the history of street-art in America, Mathias’ art is a representative
snapshot of the vibe experienced by the first global generation.

Mathias Masarati Hagen: Abstract Carnival opens on the 30th of October, 2024 until the 26th of January, 2024 at RARARES Gallery, Dubai
