Miart Gallery London has opened two new locations in Istanbul with an exhibition by Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn, marking the artist’s largest show to date. The exhibition, which opened to the public on 5 May, features 80 works—including both sculptures and paintings—presented across the gallery’s two new venues: Miart Gallery Istanbul in Etiler and Miart Gallery Bosphorus at the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus.

The expansion into Istanbul is part of Miart Gallery’s broader international strategy. The gallery, known for its contemporary programming in London, is using the Quinn exhibition to establish a presence in Turkey.

Quinn’s sculptures have been installed in public spaces internationally, including in Venice, Doha and Rome. His 2019 installation Building Bridges, first shown at the Venice Biennale, featured six pairs of large hands symbolising virtues such as Friendship, Love and Wisdom. Hands as a recurring motif—used to suggest connection and unity—also appear in the current Istanbul exhibition.

Quinn has previously produced work for the United Nations and the Vatican. In 1994, Pope John Paul II blessed a sculpture he created of St Anthony in Padua. Miart Gallery is reportedly in discussions with the artist about a potential future installation of Building Bridges in Istanbul.

Speaking about the possibility of public art in the city, Quinn said: “Istanbul has so many beautiful locations suitable for public art. Dolmabahçe Palace and the Atatürk Cultural Centre plaza are at the top of my list. Art is not only aesthetic—it’s about empathy, solidarity, and reaching across divides.”
