Julien Jaca’s latest solo exhibition at COVA Art Gallery, THERE ARE ALWAYS FLOWERS FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO SEE THEM – Paintings for Cy,” is a vibrant exploration of beauty amidst adversity. Motivated by his recent journey into fatherhood, Jaca’s work reflects his desire to show his newborn daughter, Cy, the world’s inherent beauty, even in its darkest moments.

Inspired by Henri Matisse’s choice to paint flowers and the world’s beauties even during times of war, and influenced by the unrestrained freedom and elegance of Cy Twombly’s work, Jaca’s series captures an optimistic perspective. Matisse’s approach resonates deeply with Jaca, symbolized by a solitary poppy standing resilient on a battlefield. Similarly, Twombly’s evocative style has guided Jaca in exploring the raw, emotional energy of painting.

This exhibition is a testament to Jaca’s unwavering optimism and belief in the enduring presence of beauty. Through his art, he invites us to see the flowers, even when the world around us seems somber. Each piece in the series serves as a reminder that beauty persists and can be found by those who seek it.

Julien Jaca (b. 1985, Toulouse, France) is an artist and painter living and creating in Hossegor, along the Atlantic Coast of South-West France. Educated at the Toulouse School of Fine Arts from 2008 to 2012, Jaca chose to leave the academic environment to pursue a career as an international tattoo artist.

His global travels have introduced him to the tactile beauty of traditional art forms and craftsmanship, fostering a deep appreciation for their honesty and spiritual resonance. This respect permeates his work, infusing each piece with a sense of authenticity and connection to cultural heritage. In 2018, a significant event reshaped his artistic and personal journey, inspiring one of his seminal works, “THE ONLY PICTURE I WILL EVER HAVE OF YOU.” This experience marked a pivotal moment in Jaca’s evolution, influencing his creative trajectory and thematic focus.
