In celebration of International Women’s Day, The Independent is honouring the most impactful women in British society In collaboration with Outernet London. Portraits of notable women from this year’s “Independent Women: The Influence List” will be displayed in a public exhibition in the heart of London’s West End. This event aims to promote the International Women’s Day theme of “Inspire Inclusion” to a wide audience and simultaneously generate funds for The Independent’s charitable partner, Refuge.

Independent Women: The Influence List 2024

Independent Women: The Influence List 2024″ highlights the top 50 women leading the way in Britain across various sectors, including entertainment, sports, politics, business, art, literature, fashion, and social activism. These influential figures are setting the path for future generations.

This year, Esther Ghey is placed top of the list, followed by Kate Garraway, Claudia
Winkleman, Mary Earps
and Sue Gray.

The line-up features women from diverse backgrounds who have made a significant impact on the world around them.

Photographic portraits in aid of Refuge

Visionary photographer Sane Seven has photographed ten remarkable women for a special project. These portraits will be displayed at Outernet in central London and later sold to raise funds for Refuge, a UK-based charity that supports victims of domestic abuse. The striking black-and-white images showcase a diverse group of women who have joined forces to support the cause.

Renowned British artist Tracey Emin has generously donated a one-off photographic portrait, ‘The Empty Room,’ to raise money and awareness for Refuge. The portrait features Emin reclining in a room with one of her cats, Teacup, resting under her legs. The portrait also depicts her urostomy tube falling from her stoma at her waist side.

Eleven photographs will be revealed at Outernet London, a popular destination that has received over six million visitors in its first year and has a daily footfall of 223,000. The Now Building, Outernet’s flagship space, features the world’s most advanced screens, standing over four storeys tall, spanning 360 degrees and in 16k definition. The portraits will be exclusively exhibited in Outernet’s space, Now Trending, and will be free for all audiences to view.

Sane Seven, photographer, said: “Each photo I take is about digging deeper into the real stories of women, highlighting their increasing influence in our evolving society. Collaborating with The Independent and Refuge, we’re sparking real talk about fairness and freedom, and showing the world what it looks like when women are truly free to be themselves.”

Now Trending is located in the heart of London, near Tottenham Court Road Station. To celebrate the occasion, Carol Vorderman and Baroness Floella Benjamin OM DBE will attend the unveiling of the portraits at Outernet today. The photographs will be on display to the public at Outernet until the end of the month.

In line with The Independent’s goal of driving change, the portraits displayed at Outernet will be available for sale. The proceeds from the sales will be used to support Refuge, a charitable organization. The funds will help the organization to provide valuable services, including the National Domestic Abuse Helpline, which enables women and children to live without fear of violence. The Independent will provide further information on how to purchase these exclusive portraits.
