So here’s our Five Exhibitions To See In London In September 2024
Morag Caister: Peacetime
RHODES is delighted to announce Peacetime, the upcoming solo exhibition of celebrated portrait artist Morag Caister. Opening on 12th September 2024, this exhibition showcases a series of deeply humanising portraits that capture the essence of stillness and acceptance amidst the chaos of contemporary life.
Peacetime reflects Caister’s profound interest in the intricacies of human nature. Each portrait is a testament to her gentle and compassionate gaze, offering a therapeutic space where the dualities of human existence are observed without judgment. Much like a therapy session or confessional, these sittings provide a moment of reflection and understanding, resulting in works that are both emotionally resonant and profoundly human.
Set against domestic backdrops, the portraits in Peacetime reveal subtle motifs that signify the quiet disorder of everyday life – a creased shirt, a crumpled towel, an abundance of cushions. These elements hint at the cyclical habits and inevitable behaviours that characterise our existence, creating a temporary space of peace and acceptance.

Visitors can join in silence, reflection, or conversation as they explore the exhibition and experience the transformative power of performance art.
At the centre of the exhibition will be the newly acquired Chair for Human Use with Chair for Spirit Use, featuring two chairs in which visitors will have the opportunity to sit before each other and enter a moment of shared energy, ‘activating the power of art’ as Abramović explains.

Malik Roberts: The Double Up
Celebrated Brooklyn-born-and-based painter and mixed-media artist, Malik Roberts, is set to make his London debut in a solo show, ‘The Double Up’ exhibiting all new works at Hoxton’s D’Stassi Art for six weeks from September 13th – October 25th 2024.
Off the back of the success of his latest homecoming show “To Suffer a Lick”, which debuted in New York before travelling cross-coast to LA, as well as a recent sell-out show in Athens, Greece; Roberts intends to build on his endeavour to both distil and reveal the liminal essence that characterises black culture.
This new body of work takes a closer look at outward identity and the duality of power and fragility in the act of concealment. Taking the very palpable symbol of the balaclava, a clothing item with myriad connotations increasingly adopted into popular culture, Roberts delves deeper into the psyche of his subjects, paradoxically revealing the aspects of being his protagonist feels necessary to mask, while actively highlighting the features they wish to acknowledge, even celebrate.

Daria Blum: Drip Drip Point Warp Spin Buckle Rot
Claridge’s ArtSpace is delighted to announce the exhibition Daria Blum: Drip Drip Point Warp Spin Buckle Rot by Royal Academy Schools graduate Daria Blum, the winner of the first Claridge’s Royal Academy Schools Art Prize set to open 24 September 2024 in the heart of Mayfair.
Multidisciplinary artist Blum graduated from the RA Schools in 2023, and her work was selected for the £30,000 award by judges Yinka Shonibare CBE, RA and Eva Rothschild RA. The award was presented by performance artist Marina Abramović and introduced by actor, author and co-host of Talk Art Russell Tovey at Claridge’s last September, bringing to life a three-year long partnership and a commitment from Claridge’s and the Maybourne Group to showcasing standout art and supporting the artistic community.
For this exciting debut, Blum will transform the John Pawson designed Claridge’s Artspace in Brook’s Mews with a dynamic and enveloping exhibition. The multimedia installation invites visitors to perceive the space differently: a metre-wide walkway on which the artist performs will follow the perimeter of the gallery space, raised above the floor; spot and theatre lights create alternating atmospheres, while a multichannel video and sound piece will direct the focus of the viewer’s attention. Live performances will take place regularly throughout the five-week exhibition run, punctuating the installation and completing it, with artist Blum taking centre stage.
