Echoes of Identity: A Contemporary Narrative
2th May, 2025 – 28th May, 2025
The Barbican Library
Level 2
Barbican Centre
Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS
At a time when questions of heritage, migration, and identity are shaping global conversations, Echoes of Identity brings together a group of contemporary African and diasporic artists at the Barbican Centre. Curated by Art Africa, the exhibition features works by Xavier Laurent Leopold, Tonye Ekine, Sani Sani, Joshua Donkor, Aziah Lusala, Agbabiaka Johnmark, Terna Jogo, Samson Bakare, Vanessa Endeley, Emmanuel Obile Joshua, and Charles Mensah.

Located just floors below the Barbican’s Noah Davis exhibition, Echoes of Identity continues the dialogue by highlighting a new generation of artists exploring the space between personal history and future possibility.
Through painting, sculpture, and photography, the exhibition examines how artists engage with cultural memory, mythology, and migration in shaping their sense of self. It raises important questions: How do we carry or reshape inherited narratives? What does it mean to define identity in a global context?

The show reflects a shared experience of movement and change, while also emphasizing individual creative expression. It respects tradition but allows room for reinvention.
Echoes of Identity offers a thoughtful look at the many ways identity is formed, challenged, and redefined today. Presented in partnership with the Barbican Library, the exhibition is part of Art Africa’s ongoing commitment to showcasing the depth and diversity of African and diasporic art.
Echoes of Identity: A Contemporary Narrative opens on the 2th of May, 2025 until the 28th of May, 2025 at The Barbican Library
