D’Stassi Art is pleased to present the eagerly awaited UK debut solo show of COPE2 – the acclaimed graffiti artist whose legendary career spans over 40 years. Titled UNHINGED, the exhibition will open on March 29 and will be on view until April 12 2024. UNHINGED will showcase a series of 20 canvas works by COPE2 that have been made exclusively for D’Stassi. The exhibition will showcase COPE2’s neo abstract expressionist works, alongside the Bubble and Wildstyle lettering he has become synonymous with.
D’Stassi Art will also offer a selection of London Underground maps tagged by the artist in homage to COPE2’s history of graffiti in the New York subway. COPE2 began his artistic career in the late 1970’s in South Bronx and quickly became recognised for his throw up. He has worked on collaborative projects with household names such as Adidas, Converse and Times Magazine. Alongside this, his tag has appeared in other media such as the video game ‘GTA IV’ and film ‘Shrek: The Third’ further demonstrating his notoriety.
Co-founders of D’Stassi, Edward Sanders and Michael Howes also said: Cope has a rich history and fits well with the ethos and roster we house here at D’Stassi. It is a pleasure to welcome him to our Shoreditch flagship for his UK debut. We feel that this will continue to promote all of the incredible talent and art that came out of New York through the 70s and 80s.
This show has been a long time coming. I’ve been a fan of Cope and his work for many years. He has a distinctive style and a history in the New York graffiti scene that goes back to the 70’s. This will be his first solo exhibition in the UK and we are more than excited to be showcasing his work for the first time at our London gallery.
