Artsy Unveils ‘Women on the Pulse,’ a Monthlong Tribute to Women in the Arts

To mark Women’s History Month, Artsy, the world’s largest online marketplace for discovering and buying art, has launched Women on the Pulse—a month-long campaign dedicated to spotlighting the women driving the art world forward today. The initiative celebrates artists, gallerists, collectors, and tastemakers who continue to shape and influence the cultural conversation.

The campaign features a trio of curated collections, original editorial storytelling, social activations, and a public art component, all aimed at both celebrating and championing women artists. It also seeks to address a broader industry imbalance: in 2024, only 26 per cent of collector enquiries on Artsy were for works by women artists.

Commenting on Artsy’s Women on the Pulse campaign, Artsy’s President, Dustyn Kim, said: “We’re delighted to once again be placing a much needed, increased spotlight on women with our ‘Women on the Pulse’ campaign. A key impetus behind the campaign is the notable gender gap in the art market. In 2024, only 26% of all collector inquiries on Artsy were for works by women artists.

By showcasing the work of women artists through three different Curated Collections and sharing expert collector perspectives, Artsy is working towards achieving greater equity across the industry. Collecting the work of women artists today will help achieve a more equitable tomorrow.”

“As a woman in the art industry and the daughter of an artist mother, this initiative and the need for greater parity hold a deeply personal place in my heart, and I am proud that Artsy is so committed to championing women in the art world,” Kim added.

The campaign includes three themed Curated Collections:

Influential Women Artists Now, launched on 28 February, spotlights women who are making some of the most vital and exciting art today. Whether emerging voices or established names with staying power, these artists have captured the attention of collectors, as reflected in the number of views and enquiries their work receives on Artsy. Featured artists include Etel Adnan, Nina Chanel Abney, Olga de Amaral, Laura Berger, Madeleine Bialke, Katherine Bradford, Elizabeth Catlett, Helen Frankenthaler, Nan Goldin, Beatrice Meoni, Anne Carney Raines, Cindy Sherman, and Mickalene Thomas.

Late Women Artists in the Spotlight, launching on 5 March, highlights the work of late women artists who are increasingly receiving the recognition they deserve from collectors, curators, and institutions. Their contributions are now being woven into the broader narrative of art history. The curated selection includes works by Joyce Wieland, Alma Thomas, Louise Nevelson, Ithell Colquhoun, Vivian Browne, Gabriele Münter, Emily Kam Kngwarray, Suzanne Valadon, and Kaari Upson.

Women Collectors on Women Artists to Know, launching on 17 March, offers insights from five influential women collectors—Carla Shen, Ingrid Best, Komal Shah, Diane Audrey Ngako, and Queenie Rosita Law—who have selected works by women artists they believe should be on every collector’s radar. These collectors are shaping the art world not only through their personal tastes, but also by influencing institutions and expanding the contemporary art canon. The collection highlights both established names and rising stars.

Discussing Artsy’s Women’s History Month focus, Casey Lesser, Artsy’s Chief Curator and Editor-in-Chief, commented:“In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re excited to highlight women artists across three curated collections that will direct established and aspiring collectors to the work of women artists. These collections will range from the most in-demand women artists, to those overdue for recognition, as well as works by women artists selected by top collectors.”

The campaign also extends into the public realm through Artsy’s digital billboard collaboration with Outfront Media. The project features the work of five women artists—Sophie von Hellermann, Brianna Lance, Jesse Zuo, Nadia Waheed, and Jay Lynn Gomez—curated by Artsy’s Senior Curatorial Manager, Adeola Gay. Centred on the theme Women Artists Reimagining the Self-Portrait, the featured works will be displayed throughout March on digital screens within and outside New York City subway stations.

Women on the Pulse invites both established collectors and new art enthusiasts to discover and support the work of women artists, helping to create a more inclusive and representative future for the art world.
