D’Stassi Art are proud to introduce our latest group show carefully curated by friend of the gallery Heather Bell. The show explores a selection of whimsical artworks which focus on the imagination, and air a sense of what is to be defined as cool and popular; words that have been used so frequently in contemporary society they’ve almost lost their meaning. For some artists being cool or popular is all that has ever mattered, a merging of celebrity and artist pioneered in the 1960’s by the likes of Andy Warhol and his peers. In this show unforeseen creatures coexist with a raw display of disaffected youth culture.

Cat 3, Patrick Francis Quinn, 2023

The ever changing interpretation of what it is to be considered as cool, as well as its ephemeral nature, has resulted in the idea that coolness can in fact be attributed to anything or anyone. Curator Heather Bell describes the artworks chosen in WIDE-EYED as having “a fluent sense of tainted innocence and fantasy throughout the show, like walking through a minefield of teen angst and fairy dust.”

D’Stassi Art has always had a keen interest in supporting and promoting emerging talent at all stages of their artists careers. Director Edward Sanders was particularly interested in the artists and selection of works Heather presented when they initially met to discuss the show and instantly believed it would be an ideal fit for D’Stassi Art’s Shoreditch flagship. D’Stassi Art will be opening the gallery doors on the 26th May 2023 at 6PM to welcome collectors and art lovers to the WIDE-EYED opening and launch party. To RSVP please email info@dstassiart.com.
