London has welcomed a new hidden gem, The Garden Cinema, located in Covent Garden. This independent cinema aims to revive the nostalgic feeling of visiting an old-fashioned movie theatre rather than being just another luxurious multiplex. The cinema boasts an art-deco aesthetic with an attention to detail.
It offers a program focused on independent and foreign language films and seasons of renowned cinematic masterpieces and lesser-known films. Their venue boasts two screens: one with 70 seats and another with 40, and a third screen will be added shortly. Both screens have wheelchair access and a 2K Digital Projector with Dolby audio processing up to 7.1. Cinema-goers can also enjoy a lifetime membership for just £20, which offers many benefits.

- £2 off standard price tickets (max 2 x tickets per booking)

Renowned filmmakers Mike Leigh and Ken Loach have shown their support for this venue and its potential. The Garden Cinema was founded by cinema enthusiast and entrepreneur Michael Chambers the cinema after selling his legal directory business in 2018. Chambers said, “The Garden Cinema will be run with a clear purpose in mind.”
To show films old and new that we regard as worth seeing. Films that enrich us through their heartfelt realism or imaginative dramas. Films that are ‘true’ in the fullest sense of the word – true to our human nature, true to our human experience in all its shades both light and dark. Films, in short, that we’d want to see again. – Michael Chambers
Chambers has made sure there’s plenty of space adjacent to the screens for audiences to meet, share drinks at the bar, and join organised discussions with additional space for events and members’ meeting rooms.
The cinema’s opening week programme includes screenings of Joachim Trier’s Oscar nominated The Worst Person in the World and a season of classics celebrating the work of Marlon Brando. The Garden Cinema oozes the spirit of vintage picture houses, making enjoying a flick a memorable experience.
