LAUNCH F18 is delighted to feature Brooklyn based artists, CHIAOZZA on its online Viewing Room. We are pleased to present a selection of recent works in this unique presentation titled, Gemels. Amongst these works include a series of new paintings and a sculpture, all created since the start of the new year. This special presentation will be available and for viewing from September 24 – October 31, 2020.
Expanding upon their stylistically notable sculptures and 2D works, CHIAOZZA has created a new series of stunningly tranquil paintings and sculptures for their most recent body of work included in, Gemels. Created throughout their quarantine, the artists worked primarily from an outdoor studio on an apple farm in eastern Vermont.
Drawing inspiration from the Vermont landscape and farmland, this new series takes inspiration from the curious forms of grafted apple trees. Gemel, which is the Latin word for ‘a pair,’ is often used in forestry to describe two trees that have grown together. As a collaborative duo, the symbolism of this notion acted as a remarkable metaphor between two people who not only work together, but live and grow together beyond art as well.
Deep within these vibrant paintings are playful forms referencing what could be a sculpture, a tree, or even a completely original creation by the artists themselves. True to the title itself, these new paintings capture what the natural formation of a gemel is in its truest form. These paintings, delicate in their painterly application, and deeply methodical, display the remarkable technique and talent of these artists, while embodying their own harmony and rhythm of two individuals growing together.
Adam Frezza & Terri Chiao are an American artist duo whose work explores play and craft across a range of media, including painted sculpture, installation, collage, photography, design, and public art. Also known as CHIAOZZA (rhymes with “wowza” or “yowza”), Adam and Terri have exhibited their collaborative work in solo exhibitions in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, in numerous group shows around the US, and in a variety of art and design venues internationally. The studio was founded in 2011 and is based in New York City.
